Regie Gibson: Music, Mythography and
Words
This 6 week course will deal with creating
music, orchestrating metaphor, and psychological
force inside the poem. We will explore how
mythic archetype, cultural, and other contexts
aid in creativity. We will write a short poetic
mythography (a metaphorical terrain) where
we will address the unconscious aspects of
poetic association. We will then unpack the
metaphors through an exercise in hermeneutics
(translation).
This course will include writing poetry in
response to visual art, music, and other poems.
Participants will address technical aspects
of poetry as it specifically relates to their
individual aesthetic and if students are interested,
we will deal with the performance aspect of
poetry as well. Participants will be given
required and suggested reading, viewing and
listening.
Please send a brief (approx. 300 words) about
yourself as a poet and the books, poems, music,
and artwork that have had the greatest effect
on you both personally and as an artist.
